The following information obtained from an essay written by Eleanor Marvin:
"William A. Mingus, son of William E. and Hannah Lewis Mingus, was born 10-17-1833 in Salt Creek Township, Muskingum Co., Ohio. In 1855 William fathered an illegitimate son, Josephus Mingus. Josephus and his mother, Nancy Moore, lived near Bishopville, Ohio, on a little creek. They were very poor. William offered Josephus' mother a large sum of money if she wouldn't call the boy Mingus but she refused saying, 'Mingus he is and Mingus he will be called.' January 11, 1860 William A. Mingus married Cynthia Ann Vore, (marriage recorded at the courthouse in McConnelsville, Morgan County, Ohio)."

See also the 1880 Census Trimble Township, Athens County, Ohio at Household #225 (page 25) providing:

The LDS IGI provides that Francis [sic] A. Mingus was born on Sept. 25, 1876 in Trimble Township, Athens County, Ohio to parents Josephas [sic] and Augusta A. [Taylor] Mingus. It also provides that Francis [sic] A. Mingus married Maley Hanney on Nov. 25, 1895 in Athens, Ohio. But see records of Ralph Bale, Justice of the Peace, providing that Maley and Francis [sic] [Mingus] Hanney married on November 27, 1895. James L. Powell, Mingus family researcher, surmises it is possible that the license was taken out on Nov. 25 and the marriage might have actually occurred on Nov. 27, 1895. This is, however, speculation on his part explaining why there may be a difference between the LDS marriage date and the records of the J.P. who married Frances and Maley.
